A great strategy for controlling technology use in the classroom setting is the BYOD Stoplight. This sign would do well being displayed in the classroom where students have to provide their own technology. Red - If the classroom magnet is on Red, the students know that they are not to have any technology out. All technology must be off and away. Yellow - If the classroom magnet is moved to Yellow, the students know that they can have their technology out on their desks. That being said, they still have to ask for permission to use. Green - If the classroom magnet is on Green, the students know that they are free to use their device, however, they must be on task and working on school related material. |
The image to the left shows a list of 10 rules that teachers can incorporate into their classrooms if they have a classroom set of computers, chrome books, etc.
In classrooms that only have a classroom set of computers, it is important that students take extra good care of the school materials. Rules such as touching the mouse and keyboard gently, plugging the technology in after using it, as well as, keeping food and drinks away from the devices will ensure that the school technology lasts for years to come. |

The slideshow to the left has 8 technology posters that would be perfect in an elementary classroom. These posters are kid friendly and get straight to the point.
1. Save your work 2. Think before you print 3. Keep your password to yourself 4. Eyes on your own screen 5. Leave tricky stuff to experts 6. Watch where you click 7. Keep food and drink away from technology 8. Respect the computer |
